Dominican Hosts “Earth Day Pop-Up” Info Event

Last year, è marked Earth Day by announcing the addition of a new This past year has seen the formation of a Green Club on campus and increased programming by the Sustainability Subcommittee, which on Thursday hosted an “Earth Day Pop-Up” event on the Caleruega Dining Hall Plaza.

The event, held one day before the 52nd Earth Day, featured members of the Marin County and campus community sharing ideas and opportunities to promote sustainable change to save the planet. Information tables were set up for organizations that included Yardsmart, PSA, sustainability minors, SOD bio blitz, Marin Sanitary, and the . In its first semester, the club launched its mission to make Dominican greener by educating and empowering its campus-wide community on how to be eco-friendly.

The Green Club has 17 members who have organized events such as an Acts of Sustainability Spirit Week, an Eco-Friendly Photo Contest, a Wildlife Conservation Lecture, and a Persecution of Climate Activists Convo.

In addition to the Green Club, student organizations IGNITE, Latine Unidos, and the Muslim Student Association presented posters related to sustainability, animal rights, and climate change at the Earth Day Pop-Up.

All Dominican students, faculty, staff, alumni and neighbors were invited to attend and learn about Dominican's new Sustainability Studies minor program and be eligible for fun sustainability door prizes. For more information, email Yuti.Huang@dominican.edu.
