Fun-filled Reunion Weekend to Honor Class of 1969, Service Award Winners
About 150 proud 猫咪社区 alumni will return to campus for the annual Alumni Reunion Weekend Friday and Saturday, April 26-27
Alumni Reunion Weekend is an opportunity for alumni to reconnect with friends and honor the outstanding recipients of this year鈥檚 Alumni Awards. Highlights of the weekend include the 50th Anniversary Golden Circle Dinner honoring the Class of 1969, reunion Mass, the anniversary luncheon and a concert and beer garden in Forest Meadows.
Festivities begin on Friday evening with the 50th Anniversary Golden Circle Dinner in the Garden Room at Edgehill Mansion. The cocktail hour starts at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m.
At last count, 34 members of the Class of 1969 had RSVP鈥檇 for the dinner. The Class of 1969 reunion gift has been designated for The Sister Marie Sagues, O.P. Endowed Scholarship, which will be given to a senior majoring in Humanities.
On Saturday, Mass will be observed at 10 a.m. at Benincasa Chapel followed by the awards ceremony and champagne reception at 11:30 a.m. in Guzman Lecture Hall.
Each year Dominican honors deserving alumni and friends by bestowing four awards for outstanding service to the Dominican community. This year Skip Kniesche '91 who last year retired after 13 years as principal at Kent Middle School, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award, Gloria Sun Horn '62, a former Dominican trustee who has opened her home to host alumni events and led groups of alumni on tours of Chinatown, will receive the Sr. Patricia Lyon鈥檚 O.P. Distinguished Alumni Service Award, and Michael Henkes, who was Grounds Manager at Dominican for 25 years, will be awarded the Sister M. Aquinas, O.P. Award. Adrienne Jose '13, a Pediatric Cardiovascular nurse at Stanford Children's Health - Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, and Oscar O'Con, Jr. '17, a former Penguins鈥 student-athlete who is now a San Rafael Police Officer, will both receive the Outstanding Recent Graduate Award.
Following the awards ceremony and champagne reception, the Anniversary Luncheon will start at 12:45 p.m. on Meadowlands Lawn. All five and 10-year reunion classes from 1949-2014 will be recognized at the luncheon. Three members of the Class of 1949 have RSVP鈥檇 and all alumni are welcomed to the attend any and of reunion events.
Reunion Weekend 2019 continues with a beer garden and concert in partnership with Associated Students of Dominican University (ASDU) from 1-5 p.m. at Forest Meadows Field. Several alumni will be performing at the concert. Class photos will be taken on the Meadowlands Hall stairs at 2:15 p.m. followed by campus tours at 3 p.m.
Reunion Weekend will conclude with the 鈥淎fter Shock鈥 at Country Club Bowl in San Rafael for an evening of beer, bowling, and bonding with fellow Penguin alumni. The Dominican Alumni Relations will pick up the tab for first drinks and appetizers.
